Have dinner with York's Masons to raise funds for local children in need
YORK VILLAGE - St. Aspinquid's Masonic Lodge will hold an Italian dinner on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. to raise funds for its charity directed to area schoolchildren. The Lodge's Masonic Angel Fund focuses on providing relief to those children whose unmet needs fall outside the usual social service agencies.
Responding directly to the requests from school nurses, administrators and guidance counselors who have determined that the need exists, the Masons hope to be a resource for them, providing such needed items as eyeglasses, clothing, sports participation fees and summer programs.
In announcing Saturday's event, John Fennessey of St. Aspinquid's Lodge explained that children would not otherwise be able to afford these items or take part in the programs as the needs are not met with existing social service programs.
One of the fasted growing Masonic charities in the world, the Angel Fund has spread to 112 lodges in 12 states since its inception in 1998.
One of the fundamental principles of the Masonic Angel Fund is that 100 percent of the funds raised go directly to the children in need. Any overhead costs are covered by the Masons.
York's own St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge was the first lodge in Maine to adopt this charitable program.
Tickets for the Italian dinner will be available at the door. The price is $10 for adults and $6 dollars for ages 17 and younger or 65 and older.
The event will be held at St. Aspinquid's Masonic Hall, located at 101 Long Sands Road, beside the Long Sands Plaza.
The event is open to the public.
