SHARING KINDNESS. Penny Wigglesworth, seen here sharing her book with students at Village Elementary School last week, encouraged local second-graders to help others. The children dressed teddy bears in sweaters and headbands, decorated bags to put the bears in, and took the "Penny Bear Friendship Club" oath. The bears are now being sent all over the world to people in need while sharing messages of love, hope and compassion. They have been sent to hospitals, orphanages, soldiers in Iraq and to victims of disasters like Katrina. The children will also make cards to go with the bears on their journey. Each bear has a good luck penny sewed into a rainbow pocket; hence the name Penny Bear. The Penny Bear Company is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Penny Wigglesworth went to every second-grade classroom to share her message of the importance of helping others and being kind.

The future of the York High School Arts Wing remains to be seen, but the lines of communication have been opened between the local officials who will ultimately determine whether there is a second chance for such a project.
