OGUNQUIT - Sargent Corporation of Stillwater Maine will be moving equipment onto the Berwick Road site of the Ogunquit Transfer Station and Recycling Center today, Wednesday, Oct. 4, but local officials and members of the Transfer Station Committee shoveled the first bit of soil on Tuesday to kick-off the long awaited project.

In addition to Transfer Station Manager Graham Simonds, those present for Tuesday morning's event included Selectmen Jon Speers, Jackie Bevins, Chairman John Miller and Vice Chairman John Abbott; Town Manager Phil Clark, Budget Committee Chairman Frank Broomfield and Transfer Station Committee members Stillman Bradish and Kevin O'Neil.

"We're happy to get going on this," Simonds said Tuesday.

Simonds added the new facility will be much more sophisticated and allow the separation of recyclable materials such as plastics and metals that are now co-mingled.
