Thee Privileged Pet to host fall festival that's gone to the dogs … and cats
By Jennifer L. Saunders
Six-year-old Labrador retriever Oliver and two-year-old Coco the kitty are just two of the well over 100 animals currently in residence at the Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk awaiting new homes. On Saturday, Oct. 14, York's own Thee Privileged Pet will celebrate its third anniversary by offering fun for the whole family - humans and pets alike - with a doggie wedding and celebration to raise funds for the AWS.

Literally.
That's because Thee Privileged Pet, a pet boarding, grooming, training and doggie daycare facility, plans to host nothing less than a "doggie wedding ceremony" as the main of the Annual Harvest Festifurr on Saturday, Oct. 14.
And yes, it is for a good cause. All net profits will be donated to the Animal Welfare Society, located in West Kennebunk, to help care for the more than 100 cats, many dogs and other animals who reside at the shelter while awaiting a new home and family. See "Pets of the Week" for profiles of just a few of these furry felines, canines and other critters.
"Thee Privileged Pet is a great business and does a lot for us," said Katie Dolloff of the Animal Welfare Society. "We'll be down there with an info table and available animals during their fall festival."
Thee Privileged Pet's wedding, which organizers promise has "gone to the dogs," will begin at 1 p.m. in the flourishing garden located on the hill.
The bride is a chocolate Labrador retriever owned by Tami and Bruce Esty while the groom is a black Labrador owned by Scott and Nicole Strynar.
"The blushing bride will be wearing a collar embroidered with flowers designed by Keith Shubert of Floral Concepts," Tami Esty and her Thee Privileged Pet staff noted in their announcement of the event, adding that there will be a real justice of the peace overseeing this ceremony: Cape Neddick's KC Christensen-Lang of Happiness Is.
And Christensen-Lang is not the only local business owner who will be helping with the event.
The wedding cake is being prepared by Owen Dyer of ConfectionArt for a reception to be held immediately following the wedding ceremony and Catherine Bosbach of From the Heart will provide wedding favors. Stan Barker of Adworks is the event's videographer while Stephanie Poltack from Sillie Event-Ures will be the photographer.
An open house of Thee Privileged Pet will be held before and after the wedding, ongoing from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is free to both two-legged members of the public and their four-legged friends.
Fall Festifurr is sponsored in part by the Wilkinson Law Offices, Downeast Mortgage, RE-MAX-Realty One, Cm Appraisals, Ocean National Bank and Wireless Explosion.
The celebration will be held at Thee Privileged Pet's location at 915 Route 1, just about five minutes from York Village. Esty and the staff have extended an open invitation for residents to stop in or call the office for more information, to be a part of the event or to make a donation to the raffle to support the AWS fundraising effort.
