Headlines from York and Ogunquit, Maine

SIGN OF THE TIMES. It's beginning to look a lot like … autumn. Pictured here is a new addition to Route 1 in the vicinity of the York-Ogunquit town line. Pictured here, the Meadowmere grounds are all decked out for autumn and Halloween with this giant scarecrow on hand to greet passersby. And this festive autumn friend has appeared just in time. For example, the Youth Enrichment Center at Hilton-Winn Farm will host its Fall Fun Day this Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the farm on Ogunquit Road in Cape Neddick. It's also time to hearken the arrival of York's Harvestfest celebration, which begins this Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Oct. 7 through 9, with the Sidewalk Sale at York beach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. You can also take advantage of this year's Reap the Harvest Raffle, with limited edition Harvestfest prints by nationally known illustrator Steve Lowtwait. Purchase a print or Harvestfest shirt for $15 and be entered into the raffle for prizes including $1,000 in cash, a $500 shopping spree and much more. Check out all the prizes at www.gatewaytomaine.org. See next week's edition of The Independent for all the details of York Harvesfest's big weekend, Oct. 13 through 15, and for the upcoming fun at Ogunquit Fest, which begins Oct. 20.
