Furry fun for a good cause this weekend

YORK - To add fun to Harvestfest and to celebrate its third anniversary, Thee Privileged Pet will be hosting its Harvest Festifurr on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14 and 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The public is invited to join in the festivities of this unique affair, sponsored in part by Wilkinson Law Offices, On-Site Family Karate Academy, Inc., Downeast Mortgage, ReMax Realty One, Cm Appraisals, Ocean National Bank, Wireless Explosion, York Hospital, Piscataqua Animal Hospital, Beyond Dog Training, Re/Max Seacoast Region-Lewis Farm Conservancy and Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Brentwood.

The festival will kick off on Saturday with a doggie wedding ceremony beginning promptly at 1 p.m. in the flourishing garden. The blushing bride, a chocolate Labrador retriever owned by Tami and Bruce Esty, will be wearing a collar embroidered with flowers designed by Keith Shubert of Floral Concepts. The proud groom, a black Labrador retriever, is owned by Scott and Nicole Strynar. Candice Morong will officiate the "mutt-rimony."

The bride and groom will share wedding cake prepared by Owen Dyer of ConfectionArt at the reception, immediately following the ceremony. Catherine Bosbach of From the Heart will provide wedding favors. The pink, purple and white wedding balloons donated by York Flower Shop will surround the wedding party. The staff of Thee Privileged Pet will be wearing tuxedo T-shirts printed by Bullshirt. Stan Barker of Adworks will be the videographer, and Stephanie Poltack from Sillie Event-ures will be the photographer for the union.

Play the cakewalk on Saturday at 2 p.m. with your pooch to win a healthy homemade dog cake or a delicious cake. Saturday's musical entertainer and disc jockey will be Rick O'Shey of R.O.S. Productions.

"Joyful the Clown" will be painting faces and creating balloon animals for children and adult guests. Melody of Norton Farm will be visiting with and her pony for riding. Children can play games like toss the ring on the spider, or let "Fido" bob for tennis balls. Clifford the Big Red Dog will be making several appearances.

Karen and John Lumnah of Alternative Sales will prepare hot dogs, popcorn, corn chowder, apple cider, sodas and more. Homemade baked goods will be prepared by the staff, and fresh doughnuts donated by Conghdon's Doughnut Shop.

Sunday's festivities will commence with magician BJ Hickman exhibiting a magic show at 11:30 a.m. Children of all ages will enjoy lots of non-stop, action-packed magical fun and surprises of the show featuring Star, the magic bunny.

Sunday's musical entertainer and disc jockey will be Brain Phoenix of DJ Mobile Music. Sunday at 2 p.m., play with your pooch to win a healthy homemade dog cake or a delicious cake. Prizes for the best dog and child costume contest will be awarded at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

View numerous products and services of pet and non-pet related businesses including Animal House Calls of Maine, AC Dowd Design, Pet Health, Molda Chiropractic, Stunning Spaces, Priorities Errand Management, Silpada Designs, Labrador Rescue, Curves, Pet Party Fun, A Guest of Honor, Autumn Design, the Center for Wildlife and the Animal Welfare Society. Tents to shelter the vendors and guests were rented from Exeter Rent-All Inc.

Take part in the raffle to win gift cards, T-shirts, pet products and other various items from Canine Cupboard, Atlantic Gymnastics, Happiness Is, York's Wild Kingdom, Lupine Collars and Leads, Black Dog, Hannaford's Supermarket, Verizon Wireless, Food & Co., Curves and York House of Pizza. Admission is FREE to the public and their beloved furry pets. All net profits will be donated to the Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk.

A shuttle bus will pick up and drop off visitors in the parking lot Coastal Ridge Elementary School from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The On-Site Family Karate Academy Inc. donated the transportation bus.

Fall decorations are compliments of Coastal Landscaping and Garden Center and York Corner True Value Hardware.

The celebration will be located at Thee Privileged Pet, 915 Route One.
