YORK - York field hockey played their final regular season home games this past week in what was an emotional seven days for the 15 seniors who are the heart of the team.

Greely came to York on Tuesday, Oct. 3, hoping for revenge against York for their close loss at home earlier in the season. This game was a whole different story, with York dominating throughout the game.

Michaela Franey scored York's first goal, assisted by Megan Yorke. In the second half, York scored twice with goals by Kortnee Cribby, assisted by Kirsten Weiner, and Franey once again with an assist by Cribby. There was a total of 13 shots on the Greely goalkeeper, and York goalkeeper Brittney Barrett had a shutout once again to keep the final score 3 to 0 against the Rangers.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, York had their final home game against the Route 1 rivals, the Wells Warriors. York played at the York High School football field, under the lights, instead of at their normal field. Although the field was rough and fast and the night was cold, the fan turnout in support of the field hockey girls was tremendous. The field fence was decorated with seniors' pictures, names and numbers because it was their last regular season home game at York High School.

Once the game began, all the players that were on the bench stood up in support of their fellow teammates, and did not once sit down throughout the rest of the game. York's defense and offense were superb, once again.

York scored within the first two minutes of the game on a goal by Lauren Coupal, assisted by Franey. Franey later scored again during the half, assisted by Cribby. This was the final goal of the game.

York had 14 shots on goal against Wells, and York keeper Barrett recorded the shutout.

"We had to readjust to the field, but we played a really good game," said by Coupal at the end of the game.

The whole team was elated with their win over Wells with a final score of 2 to 0.

Today, Wednesday, Oct. 11, is York's final regular season game at Falmouth, but it is not the end for York.

York will enter the playoffs in first place, and likely undefeated. This may be York's best chance to win at the state level for several years because of the large number of seniors, who are considered the soul of the team. The present seniors have come close to winning states in recent years, and are hoping to leave York High School with a state title.
