York Pee Wee football tops Noble Knights

NORTH BERWICK - On Saturday, Oct. 7, the York Pee Wee Youth Football A and B teams defeated their Noble hosts in Southern Maine Youth Football League action.The B squad score was York, 6, Noble, 0. In the initial game with York's B squad, Jimmy Orso of the Wildcats eventually scored a touchdown on a fourth down after a breakaway 87-yard run, where Noble tackled Orso on the one yard line. In the closely matched game, it turned out to be the only score of the contest. Zach Gauthier also managed 31 yards in nine carries.
York's defensive efforts were led by Austin Santoro, Sean Kelley and Mason Finitz, with two lone tackles each. Kevin Barrett led York's tackle assists with five. Keelan Hynes also picked off a Noble pass and returned the interception for 19 yards to stop a key Noble scoring drive just before the half. The remaining York B squad defensive players made an additional 38 combined solo tackles and assists against Noble's repeated drives.
The A squad score was York, 20, Noble, 0. Josh Donohoe, Donald Goodrich and Thomas Kinton each scored a touchdown on the way to a York shutout of the Noble Knights in the second game of the cool evening. Ross Hogan covered 53 yards in four carries, and Andrew LaMonica caught a 20-yard pass from Kinton in one of the successful York drives.
Defensively, Jared Clauson led York with three solo tackles, and Nick Moulton led York's tackle assists with four. Ryan LeClair also picked off a Noble pass and returned the interception for 14 yards to break up a Noble scoring drive. Ross Hogan also grabbed a pair of Noble fumbles, and Alex Janetti and Taylor Newton each had other recoveries to bring the turnover count to five, which helped blank Noble's repeated scoring efforts. The remaining York A squad defensive players teamed for an additional 34 combined solo tackles and assists against the hosting Noble team.
The York Pee Wee A and B squads will play again this Sunday, Oct. 15, at 9 a.m., when the Wildcats will host Kennebunk at the York High School football field.
