Old York Garden Club celebrates start of a new season
The Old York Garden Club recently celebrated the season with an autumn-themed luncheon. Faith Webster, pictured here, teamed up with Pam Trafton to create a Halloween themed table. YORK VILLAGE - Old York Garden Club members gathered at the First Parish Church Fellowship Hall on Oct. 11 for a "Flavors of Fall Pot Luck Luncheon" to celebrate the start of a new season.
A total of 88 members attended the event, which was organized by Marilynn Sciucco. Tables were decorated by a select group of members, each with their own autumn theme including Halloween, Autumn by the Sea, Football Tailgate Party, Thanksgiving and a Bountiful Harvest.
"This is a lively and creative bunch. The luncheon is a fun opportunity to enjoy each other's company, express creativity and eat wonderful food made by all the members in attendance," said Garden Club President Carol Coles. "A good time was had by all!"
During the year, club members take part in lectures, workshops and field trips to educate themselves and the community about gardening and floral design. They also tend the town's traffic islands and organize the Annual Plant Sale, which raises scholarship money for students wishing to pursue a career in horticulture.
The club will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2007.
