Local quilters featured in Cocheco Quilters Guild show this weekend

Just as the weather turns colder, York and Ogunquit area quilters will be offering some of their cozy creations at the Cocheco Quilters Guild Annual Quilt Show this weekend.

YORK - Take a trip across the border this Saturday and Sunday, and you're likely to see some of the most beautiful quilts made by local hands, all in the name of helping others.

Cocheco Quilters Guild of Dover, N.H., will hold its 25th Annual Quilt Show, this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22.

The show will feature over 200 contemporary and traditional quilts, from miniatures to full-sized quilts.

This year's theme is "25 years, Thousands of Quilts" celebrating the many years spent producing, quilting, promoting and sharing the traditional American craft of quilting.

York quilters are highly visible at this show.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days at the Rochester Community Center, located at 150 Wakefield St. in Rochester, N.H. Admission is $5 for each day or $8 for both days.

The annual raffle quilt is a stunning, colorful king-sized "Tea Leaf" quilt. The proceeds from the raffle ticket sales will be donated this year to the New England Quilt Museum, Seacoast Hospice and Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to quilt exhibits and raffles, there will be a Merchants Mall featuring many vendors offering a wide variety of quilt-related items, a consignment table with various hand-made items from ornaments to quilts, a penny sale with lots of winners, meet the quilters displays featuring real people and their work, a work in progress area showing quilters at work, demonstration of various techniques and a silent auction.

Verbal or written quilt appraisals will be provided by Vivien Lee Sayre, a certified appraiser with the American Quilt Society.

Food concession will be available both days.

The facility is totally handicapped-accessible with plenty of free parking.
