York Pee Wee Wildcats defeat Wells Warriors

YORK - On Sunday morning, Oct. 22, the York Pee Wee Youth Football A and B teams each won their games as they hosted the Wells Warriors at the York High School football field in Southern Maine Youth Football League action.
The B squad score was York 20, Wells 0. On two different drives, York's Jimmy Orso ran in two completed passes from Quarterback Dan Martin on the way to a 20-point shutout over the Wells Warriors. The second pass was particularly well defended by Wells, yet Orso skillfully caught the ball over his shoulder on the run to rack up 108 yards on the day. Connall Anderson also scored a touchdown within his own 108 yards of gains, and Matt Pratt converted for two points in the match-up as well. Keelan Hynes, Dakota Pidgeon, Mark MacGlashing, Cole Merritt and Kevin McKenna also made short gains on a dozen key drives for the Wildcats.
York's defense was impressive during the match-up. Anderson not only starred offensively, but led the B squad defensively in unassisted tackles with four takedowns, and Austin Santoro had five tackle assists. Cam Curtin, Mason Finitz, Eli Loeffler and Nick Moulton had several tackle assists each. MacGlashing and Pratt also had four tackle assists and forced a pair of Wells fumbles between them. Eric Lindhom, Jared Clauson and Hynes all blocked a pass apiece, and Dan Bock, Merritt and Moulton each had a fumble recovery for York. Several other York B squad defensive players teamed up for an additional 16 combined solo tackles and assists against the Wells Warriors.
The A squad score was York 20, Wells 6. Quarterback Thomas Kinton ran in two touchdowns and a two point conversion, and Evan McElwain scored a touchdown on the way to the Wildcat 20 to 6 victory. Donald Goodrich had a team high with 50 yards of running on the day, with Andrew LaMonica right behind him with 49 yards, both with eight carries a piece.
Defensively, John Cifrino and Goodrich led York with a pair of solo tackles each, and Cifrino also led York's tackle assists with an impressive count of nine. In addition Will Donovan had six tackle assists, and Alex Janetti, Wesley Warner, Tim Gauthier, Ross Hogan, Fionnbharr Reynolds, Taylor Newton and Clauson each had several hands in taking down the Wells ball carriers. Clauson also made a fumble recovery and Hogan blocked a Wells pass attempt, while McElwain intercepted his second pass in as many games.
The York Pee Wee A and B squads will play once more this Sunday, Oct. 28, at 9 a.m. when the Wildcats host Kennebunk for the final game of the season at the York High School football field.
