Richard Goodwin

YORK - Richard E. Goodwin, 80, a longtime resident, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, in the Maine Veteran's Home in Scarborough.

He was born Nov. 3, 1925, son of Earle and Lillian (Welch) Goodwin. He served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He had worked as a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in York for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, wood burning and duck carving. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer.

His first wife, of over 40 years, Florence K. (McLaughlin) Goodwin, died in 1988. He leaves his second, wife Ruth (Bolton) Goodwin of Belfast; two daughters, Cathy A. Poplett and her husband Wally Poplett of California City, Calif., and Susan J. Goodwin of Kittery Point; two brothers, Earle Goodwin, Jr., of Dover, N.H. and Gene Goodwin of Tennessee, and a sister, Gloria White and her husband Lee White of York.

Funeral services and burial will be private in the First Parish Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the York Hospital Chemical Dependency Program, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909 or to the Maine Veteran's Homes at 290 Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074 or 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
