Leon Hirsch
YORK HARBOR - Leon M. Hirsch, 91, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, in Sentry Hill.He was born, Nov. 14, 1914, in Newark, N.J., son of Sandal and Rose (Soule) Hirsch. He graduated from Southside High School and Upsala College. He owned and operated the Millburn Camera Shop. He was also a self-employed photographer and had taught photography at the Millburn High School in the adult education program.
He was past president of the Millburn, N.J., Chamber of Commerce, a past governor of Kiwanis in New Jersey and past Boy Scout commissioner. He enjoyed chess, traveling with his wife and had been a resident of Lakeside Village in Lantana, Fla., for 10 years before moving to York Harbor.
His wife of 65 years, Lillian R. (Block) Hirsch, died in 2001.
He leaves a daughter, Sandell H. Morse and her husband, Richard F. Morse, Jr., of York; three grandchildren, Richard Morse and Douglas Morse, both of N.Y.C., and Andrew Morse of Denver, Colo., and four great-grandchildren, Raina Morse, Nina Morse, Lillian Morse and Ezekeil Morse.
A brother, Seymour Hirsch, predeceased him.
A memorial service and minyan service were held on Monday, Oct. 30, at his daughter's home. Shiva will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 40 Lock Lane, York.
