WICKED WINDS. A Sunday, Oct. 29, drive over the back roads of Ogunquit resulted in a freak accident that left the Campbell family of Andover, Mass., counting their blessings that no one was injured. Paul Campbell's family was visiting relatives in Ogunquit over the weekend and decided to take some of the back roads to see the foliage. Campbell's wife was driving, he was in the passenger's seat and their six-year-old son was in the back seat when a pine tree on the side of the road snapped in the high winds and pierced the windshield of the vehicle at about 11 a.m. A passerby stopped to assist the family and the Ford Escort was taken to Alexandre's Garage on Main Street. "I noticed the tree had been marked to be cut, but it hadn't been done," Campbell said. "We were very lucky. A lot of glass fell on us, but we got out without a scratch." Fire and Rescue Chief Ed Smith said that other than one surfing rescue there were no reports of downed trees, power outages or accidents in Ogunquit over the weekend as a result of the high winds.

HALLOWEEN: OGUNQUIT STYLE. Residents conducting business in Ogunquit on Halloween had to "follow the yellow brick road" not to the Emerald City, but to the Dunaway Center as the crew at the town's municipal office really got on board with the holiday spirit. Pictured are Cheryl Emery as the wicked witch of the west; Phil Clark as the Wizard of Oz; Joanne Metz as the scarecrow; Christine Murphy in the guise of the tin man, Judy Yates as Dorothy and Judy Shaw-Kagiliery as the Lion. Judy Shaw-Kagiliery generously donated a Toto for the day with the understanding that any cookie crumbs that landed on the floor belonged to him.
