YORK - On Sunday morning, Oct. 29, the York Pee Wee Youth Football B squad was victorious over Kennebunk and the A squad tied up their game at the York High School football field in Southern Maine Youth Football League action.
The B squad score was York 14, Kennebunk 0. York's Adam Janetti and Zach Gauthier each ran in a touchdown with 21- and 16-yard runs respectively, and quarterback Dan Bock completed a pass in a gusty crosswind to Matt Cusack, who pulled in the ball for two extra points en route to a 14-point win over Kennebunk in the last game of the season.
The Wildcat rushing was closely matched as Jimmy Orso led the pack with 22 yards on the day, Janetti had his 21-yard run, Gauthier totaled 19, Mark MacGlashing had 17, Connall Anderson drove for 16, Cole Merritt ran 10, Kevin McKenna moved the ball forward and even fullback Alec Steffenberg had his first carry of the season in the York running game domination. Keelan Hynes had a 17-yard kickoff return and Graham Guthrie caught another airborne delivery from quarterback Dan Martin to round out the Wildcat offensive plays.
Defensively, Orso led with two lone tackles, and Guthrie, Martin and Mason Finitz each had one. Eli Loeffler led the tackle assists with five, Nick Moulton and Austin Santoro each had three, McKenna and Sean Kelly had a pair apiece, and Merritt, Guthrie and Kevin Barrett all had fumble recoveries. Bock also blocked a pass to compete the impressive outing of the Wildcat's defense.
The A squad game score was York 6, Kennebunk 6. Quarterback Thomas Kinton ran in a touchdown en route to 85 yards on the day for the only York B squad points in the very closely contested match-up. Andrew La Monica covered 30 yards, Donald Goodrich crossed 26 yards and Evan McElwain also made ground gains for the Wildcats.
Jared Clauson made three crushing solo tackles to lead the A squad, John Cifrino and Wesley Warner led York with eight assists. Fionnbharr Reynolds leant hands in six tackles, Zach Faskianos had five, Taylor Newton, Will Donovan and Alex Janetti all had four. Donovan, Goodrich and Cifrino each recovered loose balls as York, like Kennebunk, refused to lose in the last match-up of the season for each team.
The York Pee Wee squads are grateful for the support received during this exciting season, and look forward to hitting the gridiron again next fall.
