Headlines from York and Ogunquit, Maine

A HAPPY HALLOWEEN. The York Parks and Recreation Department once again hosted its hit event of this spooky season: the Costume Parade and Halloween Hop. From the parade through York Village to the costume contest, dancing and games at the York Public Library, the event drew hundreds to the center of town on Friday evening, Oct. 27, to celebrate the holiday. Pictured above is Gordon Diment the Spider, just prior to the parade. See our Halloween 2006 Photo Gallery for more.

After months upon months of revision, discussion and planning, a new era has begun for this seaside community. When local resident and business owner Russell A. "Russ" Peterson learned last week that he had been named Citizen of the Year, he could not have been more surprised. The Ogunquit community, under the auspices of the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce, honored Isabel Lewando as Citizen of the Year at the chamber's annual meeting held Thursday, Oct. 26, at The Cliff House on Shore Road. Less than one week remains before decision day on everything from local zoning to the governor's race to the Taxpayer Bill of Rights.
