Louise Gerstenblatt Originals at the Candleshop Inn in York Beach on Saturday, Nov. 18. A pre-Holiday showing of Louise Gerstenblatt's beautiful handcrafted original jewelry, For the last ten years, she's taken many classes with various metal artists and discovered that she had some real talent for designing and executing her ideas. Her work has been displayed in galleries and at art shows. A relative newcomer to York, Louise designs and creates jewelry from her home studio. At 80, she feels blessed to have met so many other wonderful jewelry artists and has found a new direction that stimulates her to keep learning. "One, Two, Three" at Heartwood College of Art is a silent auction of high-quality artwork to benefit the college continuing through Nov. 10. The auction will feature 123 pieces of art with starting bids of $123 that may be bid up in $10 increments. Bidders simply purchase a bidding number, view the artwork to be auctioned, and leave a bid (or phone one in to Heartwood) on their favorite pieces. The silent auction will end with a Closing Party on Friday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Bid numbers cost $10 and include a raffle ticket for great prizes and a Stuart Nudelman poster. Altrusa Fundraiser Ham and Bean Supper will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Norma's Restaurant on Route 1. The meal also includes steamed brown bread, coleslaw, coffee and beverages and homemade pie. The price is $7 for adults, $4 for children with proceeds to benefit local charities, food pantries, autistic children and other causes.
Hospice of York Candlelight Service will celebrate the lives of those we've loved and lost. A special candlelight service of remembrance with music provided by Gina Branagan Connolly, Richard Leigh and Todd Richard will take place on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at the First Parish Church. The International Women's Club of New England International Holiday Fair will be held at York Middle School on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is our largest fair ever and offers gifts from around the world, New England crafts, antiques and jewelry. The International Women's Club of New England is a group of 120 women from diverse backgrounds who raise money for charities for women and children.

Milk Masterpiece Carton Design Contest continues through Nov. 17. Garelick Farms is inviting young artists to create commemorative designs depicting "Why My School is Important to Me." Seven winning designs across seven states, including Maine, will be selected. The entry deadline is Nov. 17 and each contest winner will have his or her design featured on Garelick Farms cartons in early 2007 and receive a year's worth of Garelick Farms milk for his or her family. The Old York Garden Club invites the public to its next meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. at the First Parish Fellowship Hall in York. The program, "Welcome Home for the Holiday Season," will be presented by Diane Bullock, a York resident who has been involved with garden clubs at many levels for many years. She will create unique holiday designs starting with the "mechanics" for both education and enjoyment. Items will be raffled. The program is free of charge.
Remembrances of Wartime, the second installment in a two-part Brown Bag Lunch series in honor of Veterans Day, will be held at the York Public Library on Nov. 14 at noon. These Brown Bag Lectures are co-sponsored by the York Public Library and the Old York Historical Society. Bring a lunch to enjoy during the program. OYHS will supply a beverage.
Rick Charette and the Bubblegum Band to perform an annual Holiday Concert on Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. at Thornton Academy in Saco for the Child Abuse Prevention Council of York County. They will perform interactive and upbeat rhythms that are bound to have kids and parents dancing and singing along. After 16 performances for this annual event, this is the first time admission is free thanks to many sponsors. St. George's Episcopal Church Outreach Program Benefit Auction will be held on Nov. 10 with the preview at 5:30 p.m. and the auction at 6:30 p.m. at Foster's Clambake Pavilion on Axholme Road. The York High School Annual Poinsettia Sale is being sponsored once again by the York High School Music Boosters. Orders will be taken through Tuesday, Nov. 28. The cost per poinsettia is $8 each. The poinsettias can be picked up at the York High School Auditorium between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Dec. 2, or delivery may be requested when ordering.

Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women, a nationally known non-profit organization, is looking for volunteers to assist victims of intimate partner violence. Volunteers are needed to cover the organization's toll-free crisis line and ull training is offered. You may answer calls right from your home on weekdays, nights, weekends and/or holidays. The training is 40 hours and will consist of online and teleconferencing sessions. Volunteers must have access to a computer with an Internet connection. Home Schooling Club offers a chance to meet, socialize, have fun and take field trips with others from the community who home school just like you! Attend all of the activities or simply pick and choose from the calendar of events and activities. No commitment is required and all home schooled children are welcome to attend with their families. November events include, on Nov. 10, Nature Rocks from 1 to 2 p.m. at the White Pine Program located at 330 Mountain Road in Cape Neddick for a tour of this nature-based learning facility. On Nov. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m., meet at the York Public Library Children's Area for game time galore. Sunday, Nov. 19, come and help make a difference from 4 to 6 p.m. while joining volunteers from across the community at St. Christopher's Church working together with others from the community sorting items for York Community Service Association's annual Thanksgiving Food Baskets. Kindergym is offered by York Parks and Recreation Department and no pre-registration is required. The cost is $4 per child/$6 per family per visit. Kindergym is held at Blueberry Hill on Route 1 on Friday mornings from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. This program is ongoing. We're looking for children who are walking up to age 3 to bring their parents along to our Kindergym program! This is an opportunity for the parent and child to engage in activities geared toward coordination, mobility and large motor skill development. Music and Movement, a monthly program for children ages 2 to 6, meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the Children's Room at the York Public Library. NIA at Yoga on York is offered every Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. NIA is a fitness fusion exercise class that blends dance arts and martial arts together with fabulous music for a great workout. York Hospital's Yoga Center at the Heart Health Institute offers yoga classes for all abilities. Seated yoga for those with limited mobility is offered as well. Coffee Shop at the Wells-Ogunquit Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 to 11 a.m., serving regular or decaf coffee, pastries, Congdon's and Dunkin' Donuts, and their own blueberry muffins for $1.50. Thursday's Coffee Club occasionally has a guest speaker.
SUPPORT
Hospice of York's Living with Loss weekly bereavement support group is free of charge, and you need not have had a loved one serviced by Hospice. Hospice of York encourages pre-registration; however, you may attend any or all of the classes as you see fit. The three-week holiday session will be held on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 and 14; t he winter session is set for Jan. 4 through 25, Feb. 1 through 22, and March 1 and 8, and the spring session will be held on March 29, April 5 through 26, and May 3 through 31. All sessions are held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the basement conference room of Medical Office Building 16 on the grounds of York Hospital. FMI: call 363-7000.
Support Victims of Domestic Violence by collecting old cell phones and ink jet cartridges and mailing them to the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women free of charge. The Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women provides crisis intervention and support services to all victims of domestic violence and their families. Proceeds from this program will help the organization continue to provide services as well as support the 24-hour hotline. The York Hospital Breast Cancer Survivor Group, which meets the third Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ellis Conference Room at York Hospital, welcomes new members. Those who attend survivor groups cope better, heal more quickly and live longer. New members, whether or not their treatment was at York Hospital, are invited to come to the meetings and be with women who share their story. Friends are welcome too. During these meetings the members share information, coping tips and strategies, explore complimentary therapies, hear guest speakers, support each other, experience sisterhood, plan the Annual Walk for Hope and celebrate living.
