Currents in Education

EVERYBODY DANCE NOW. On Nov. 2, four members of the Maine State Ballet were in performance at Coastal Ridge Elementary School for a special assembly entitled, "Living in a World of Dance." And the performance had the students on their feet. Literally. As CRES music teacher Karen Littlefield put it, "The demonstration was designed to educate students on the similarities and differences among the various dance forms: ballet, modern, jazz and tap. Students were taught about the history of various dance forms, how a dancer prepares for each style of dance, dance attire, the skill of partnering, and even given a chance to participate. All students and staff enjoyed this presentation - it was absolutely amazing to see these professional dancers perform and share their knowledge of dance!"

It was a School Committee meeting that featured a little bit of everything on Wednesday, Nov. 1, beginning with a special performance by second-grade students from Village Elementary School and including such key topics as the York High School Arts Wing.
