Bring your baby and a love for reading. The goal is to provide a place where mothers of young babies can "come-as-they-are," meet other moms, and talk about a good book. There are no requirements but a love of reading. The group is open to new members on a continuing basis.
LIBRARY DISPLAYS
As we observe Election Day, the library staff has gathered books and videos to celebrate American Democracy. In conjunction with the Old York Historical Society's Brown Bag Lecture series this month, our Veterans Day display features books about those who served our nation in time of war and those who supported them at home.
SECOND ANNUAL GINGERBREAD HOUSE CONTEST
Now's the time to stop by the library and register to create your own gingerbread house! A flier with the details and registration blanks are available at the library and via the library website. Completed gingerbread houses will be on display at the library in the Children's Room from December 2 to 12 as part of York's Festival of Lights Celebration.
ART EXHIBITS
Fran Scully's watercolors are on display in the library through November.
In the Kennebunk Room, York Art Association member Louise Whelton displays her watercolors.
HOLIDAY CLOSING
The library will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
COMING EVENTS
Throughout the fall, the library is sponsoring two identical "Let's Talk About It" series on Jewish literature on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Both sections of this series are fully subscribed, but we are listing the dates and times of the remaining sessions so that attendees can find the information if needed.
Series A, with facilitator Michael Lee, includes "The Centaur in the Garden" by M. Scliar on Nov. 16 and "Kaaterskill Falls" by Allegra Goodman on Dec. 7. Series B, with facilitator Sandell Morse, includes "Out of Egypt" by Andre Acimen on Nov. 9, "The Centaur in the Garden" by M. Scliar on Nov. 30 and "Kaaterskill Falls" by Allegra Goodman on Dec. 14.
On Tuesday, Nov. 14, beginning at noon, join us for "From the Front," the second in a Brown Bag Lunch series in honor of Veterans Day. The event will feature "Remembrances of Wartime" with a panel of United States World War II veterans and homefront supports who will share stories and experiences. These Brown Bag Lectures are co-sponsored by the York Public Library and the Old York Historical Society. Bring a lunch to enjoy during the program. Old York Historical Society will supply a beverage. The program is free, but donations are always gratefully accepted.
