Louise Gerstenblatt Originals at the Candleshop Inn in York Beach on Saturday, Nov. 18. A pre-Holiday showing of Louise Gerstenblatt's beautiful handcrafted original jewelry, For the last ten years, she's taken many classes with various metal artists and discovered that she had some real talent for designing and executing her ideas. Her work has been displayed in galleries and at art shows. A relative newcomer to York, Louise designs and creates jewelry from her home studio. At 80, she feels blessed to have met so many other wonderful jewelry artists and has found a new direction that stimulates her to keep learning. EVENTS

The Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce's Annual Membership Dinner will be held Nov. 16 at Spring Hill Lodge in South Berwick from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The theme for the event is "Our Chamber: The Tie that Binds" and the evening will start with cocktails and entertainment, followed by a buffet dinner and the annual awards ceremony. Awards that will be given out include: The Gateway Awards, Chamber Committee Volunteer of the Year, Best Friend of the Chamber, Next Generation Award, Visitor Center Volunteer of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and a Board of Directors Special Recognition. Holiday Celebration at Painted Treasures will be held on Dec. 2 and 3 with gourmet pastries, good cheer and shopping for one-of-a-kind gifts for those special people in your life. The majority of our hand-painted designs are mounted on vintage or antique furniture. All repair, surface preparation, design and artwork are done at Painted Treasures' Route 1 studio, located in a charming 1925 cottage in York. Hospice of York Candlelight Service will celebrate the lives of those we've loved and lost. A special candlelight service of remembrance with music provided by Gina Branagan Connolly, Richard Leigh and Todd Richard will take place on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at the First Parish Church. Just Us Chickens Artist's Co-op will be celebrating one year in the business of bringing fine and unusual arts and crafts to the Seacoast area on Nov. 17. These items are made by local artists and craftspeople and the gallery will be open until 8 p.m. with birthday cake and refreshments served from 5 to 8 p.m. to the sounds of Celtic music played by various musical artists in the co-op. Lights to Remember is being offered by Hospice of York as an opportunity to participate in the visible symbol of remembrance of loved ones during the holiday season. The gift of $5 will place a light on the Lights to Remember tree in honor of a living person or to memorialize a loved one no longer with you. There are trees located in Wells, Ogunquit, York, Kittery, Eliot and South Berwick, and they will be lit from Dec. 1 through 31. Upon request an acknowledgment will be sent to those honored or the families of those memorialized. Requests will be accepted throughout the month of December. Milk Masterpiece Carton Design Contest continues through Nov. 17. Garelick Farms is inviting young artists to create commemorative designs depicting "Why My School is Important to Me." Seven winning designs across seven states, including Maine, will be selected. The entry deadline is Nov. 17 and each contest winner will have his or her design featured on Garelick Farms cartons in early 2007 and receive a year's worth of Garelick Farms milk for his or her family. The Moquin Family's Festival of Trees will be held at the St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge during this year's Festival of Lights Celebration in December. Rick Charette and the Bubblegum Band to perform an annual Holiday Concert on Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. at Thornton Academy in Saco for the Child Abuse Prevention Council of York County. The York High School Annual Poinsettia Sale is being sponsored once again by the York High School Music Boosters. Orders will be taken through Tuesday, Nov. 28. The cost per poinsettia is $8 each. CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Catapult is the Seacoast's first networking group specifically dedicated to young professionals. Catapult is a nonprofit organization, and membership is free. FMI: www.catapultseacoast.org.

Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women, a nationally known non-profit organization, is looking for volunteers to assist victims of intimate partner violence. Volunteers are needed to cover the organization's toll-free crisis line and ull training is offered. You may answer calls right from your home on weekdays, nights, weekends and/or holidays. The training is 40 hours and will consist of online and teleconferencing sessions. Volunteers must have access to a computer with an Internet connection. Home Schooling Club offers a chance to meet, socialize, have fun and take field trips with others from the community who home school just like you! Attend all of the activities or simply pick and choose from the calendar of events and activities. No commitment is required and all home schooled children are welcome to attend with their families. Kindergym is offered by York Parks and Recreation Department and no pre-registration is required. The cost is $4 per child/$6 per family per visit. Kindergym is held at Blueberry Hill on Route 1 on Friday mornings from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. This program is ongoing. We're looking for children who are walking up to age 3 to bring their parents along to our Kindergym program! This is an opportunity for the parent and child to engage in activities geared toward coordination, mobility and large motor skill development. Music and Movement, a monthly program for children ages 2 to 6, meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the Children's Room at the York Public Library. NIA at Yoga on York is offered every Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. NIA is a fitness fusion exercise class that blends dance arts and martial arts together with fabulous music for a great workout. York Hospital's Yoga Center at the Heart Health Institute offers yoga classes for all abilities. Seated yoga for those with limited mobility is offered as well. Coffee Shop at the Wells-Ogunquit Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 to 11 a.m., serving regular or decaf coffee, pastries, Congdon's and Dunkin' Donuts, and their own blueberry muffins for $1.50. Thursday's Coffee Club occasionally has a guest speaker.

SUPPORT

Hospice of York's Living with Loss weekly bereavement support group is free of charge, and you need not have had a loved one serviced by Hospice. Hospice of York encourages pre-registration; however, you may attend any or all of the classes as you see fit. The three-week holiday session will be held on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 and 14; t he winter session is set for Jan. 4 through 25, Feb. 1 through 22, and March 1 and 8, and the spring session will be held on March 29, April 5 through 26, and May 3 through 31. All sessions are held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the basement conference room of Medical Office Building 16 on the grounds of York Hospital. FMI: call 363-7000.

Support Victims of Domestic Violence by collecting old cell phones and ink jet cartridges and mailing them to the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women free of charge. The Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women provides crisis intervention and support services to all victims of domestic violence and their families. Proceeds from this program will help the organization continue to provide services as well as support the 24-hour hotline. The York Hospital Breast Cancer Survivor Group, which meets the third Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ellis Conference Room at York Hospital, welcomes new members. Those who attend survivor groups cope better, heal more quickly and live longer. New members, whether or not their treatment was at York Hospital, are invited to come to the meetings and be with women who share their story. Friends are welcome too. During these meetings the members share information, coping tips and strategies, explore complimentary therapies, hear guest speakers, support each other, experience sisterhood, plan the Annual Walk for Hope and celebrate living.

York Community Service Association is seeking volunteers to help prepare holiday baskets for those in need.
