Harriet Simonds
YORK - Harriet F. (Griffiths) Simonds, 90, of 275 Cider Hill Road, died, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, in Sentry Hill, York Harbor.She was born, July 26, 1916, in Utica, N.Y., daughter of Thomas J. and Mae Davenport (Son) Griffiths, Jr. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., with a Master's degree in philosophy. She was the director of the York Adult Education Program for many years. She was also co-owner of the Gourmet Four in York. She was a Red Cross volunteer at York Hospital and a member of the Old York Historical Society and the Garden Club.
Her husband of 51years, John G. Simonds, died in 1992.
She leaves a son, Christopher York Simonds of York; a sister, Eleanor Griffiths of South Berwick; five grandchildren, Margot F. Simonds, Geoff G. Simonds, Megan E. Mello, Kelsey L. Simonds and Gabriel E. Simonds, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A son, Gaylord "Jeep" Paris Simonds, died in 1999.
Funeral services and burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Old York Historical Society, P.O. Box 312, York, ME 03909. Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
