Festival of Lights

Holiday events begin at St. George's

YORK HARBOR - Christmas is coming to St. George's Episcopal Church, with all its whirlwind joy, bright laughter and deep reverence.

The holiday season officially gets underway during this weekend's Festival of Lights celebration. On Dec. 2 at St. George's is the annual Chowder Supper and Cookie Walk, priced at $5 each and open to all. Enjoy homemade chowder, cornbread and brownies and/or fill a plate with homemade cookies to take home with you beginning at 5:30 p.m., right after the Festival of Lights Parade through York Village.

The celebration of the season continues at St. George's on Dec. 17 with the Children's Christmas Pageant at 5:30 p.m. followed by a potluck supper at 6 p.m. and the service of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m.

On Dec. 21, for those who have had a recent loss and are not exactly in a merry mood, visit St. George's for an ecumenical service - Blue Christmas - 7 p.m.

Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, is the heart of the holiday at St. George's, with three Eucharist services, each a bit different from the others: Family Eucharist at 5 p.m., with music, Evening Eucharist at 7:30 p.m. with the choir singing soaring songs of the joy of the season, or the quieter "Midnight" Eucharist service at 11 p.m., featuring congregational carol-singing.

On Dec. 25, finally, Christmas Day is here, and you are invited to come for a quiet, spoken Eucharist at 10 a.m.

On Jan. 6 the Christmas season ends and Epiphany begins. A service of Epiphany will be held at 7 p.m., preceded by a potluck supper at 6 p.m. to benefit the St. George's Youth Group.

All are welcome at these holiday events. For more, call 363-7376.
