George W. Irwin
YORK - George W. Irwin, 81, a longtime resident of York, passed away on Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at the Monarch Center of Saco.

He was born August 3, 1925, in Albion, N.Y., son of William and Anna (Loper) Irwin.

He proudly served in the Army and celebrated Veterans Day 10 days before his passing.

He was a 1948 graduate of Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio. He held executive positions in sales and product design in manufacturing for 25 years. As an entrepreneur, he purchased the Button Factory in Portsmouth, N.H., and worked to begin the renovation on the building complex, establishing affordable studio space for artists.

He ran his own businesses until his retirement in his 70s. He and his wife opened G. Irwin Co. Fine Jewelry in Kittery, now run by his eldest daughter, Ann A. Pardoe. His hobbies included auto restoration, woodworking, decorative wrought iron, winemaking, jewelry-making, stamp and coin collecting and cooking.

He loved traveling the world with his wife of 56 years, Isabel (Amor) Irwin, who passed away in 2004 of colon cancer.

He leaves three daughters, Ann A Pardoe of York; Maria A. Franco of Oakland, N.J., and Laura I. Morris of Cape Elizabeth, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

His sister, Frances Irwin, predeceased him.

The family will have a private memorial service to celebrate his life. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
