IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS. While Christmas may be almost a month away, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is already hard at work to help veterans, students and the Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP), among many other charitable organizations, selling Christmas trees to benefit those in need. The Board of Selectmen is one step closer in the ongoing effort to find new homes for the York Police Department and Town Hall, and is looking at plans for the sale of several parcels of town-owned land. The draft of an amendment to Legislative Document 1535 that would lower the minimum number of residential building permits the new state law will require York to issue will be introduced at the next session of the legislature. What could better exemplify the message of this holiday season than a true "table of plenty" - a free-of-charge full dinner to which anyone is warmly welcomed with no questions asked. Mary Black Andrews remembers well those days when the York Ambulance Association was first formed about 35 years ago; after all, she was its first crew chief. When Carrie McKie was eight years old she decided what she wanted to do when she grew up: to have a farm of her own. Village and Coastal Ridge Elementary Schools will be hosting a special event next week that promises a chance to have a great time and meet some new friends while shopping for that special holiday something right here in the center of town.

Two 16-year-old juveniles were arrested shortly before midnight on Friday, Nov. 24, in connection with a series of thefts from cars in York and South Berwick, as well as possibly Ogunquit.

By Town Planner Steve Burns The York Rotary Club, with the assistance of the American Legion and local Boy Scouts, will again be collecting Toys for Tots this holiday season. The York Parks and Recreation Department will host an informational meeting next week on the town's surfing ordinance, which made headlines this summer as such issues as the limited size of the surfing zone caused friction on the beach. After the recent loss of two Maine citizens due to the misuse of a portable generator, The York Beach Fire Department felt compelled to remind local residents of the dangers winter can bring. The grass is growing and it has been mowed all summer. Now on sale at York High School for just $5 each are the 2007 Charlie Brown Wildcat Cards, providing discounts at area businesses for an entire year.
