Headlines from York and Ogunquit, Maine

OH WHAT A LIGHT. The Annual Lighting of the Nubble was held on Saturday, Nov. 25, and York's most famous landmark now stands as a tribute to the holiday season that has just begun. The celebration at Sohier Park last weekend was just the beginning of the fun, however, as Old York Historical Society and York Parks and Recreation Department will present the 14th Annual Festival of Lights this Saturday, with a few special events on Friday and Sunday as well. For all the details, see our special Festival of Lights section.

The Board of Selectmen is one step closer in the ongoing effort to find new homes for the York Police Department and Town Hall, and is looking at plans for the sale of several parcels of town-owned land. The draft of an amendment to Legislative Document 1535 that would lower the minimum number of residential building permits the new state law will require York to issue will be introduced at the next session of the legislature. What could better exemplify the message of this holiday season than a true "table of plenty" - a free-of-charge full dinner to which anyone is warmly welcomed with no questions asked. Dire predictions of the town's clam flats being closed for the season may have been quelled after a meeting Monday, Nov. 27, between state and local officials. The pre-1950s fishing shack located next to M.C. Perkins Restaurant in Perkins Cove will remain in it's location after all.
