Joseph Calnan
YORK - Joseph J. Calnan, Sr., 86, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, in York Hospital after a battle with cancer.He was born Dec. 10, 1919, in Cambridge, Mass., son of Jeremiah and Catherine (Coffey) Calnan, and lived there for many years. He had also lived in Portsmouth, N.H., for 40 years before moving to York 10 years ago. He had worked for the former Simplex Wire & Cable Co. in Newington, N.H., for 30 years before retiring in 1985. He previously worked for Bradley Franckum Plumbing Co. in Cambridge, Mass.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Barbara A. (White) Calnan; a son, Joseph J. Calnan, Jr., of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Sean M. Calnan of New Hampshire and Callie R. Stevens of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Calnan and Hailey Williams, and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, John Calnan, a sister, Helen Calnan-Perno, and his twin-sister, Christine Calnan, S.N.D., predeceased him.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Calnan was held Dec. 4 in St. Christopher's Church with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Mass. Calling hours were held Dec. 3 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home.
