Clarifying the clam flat issue
OGUNQUIT - A report in last week's edition may have misled readers to believe the clam flats along the Ogunquit River were closed by the action of the Maine Department of Marine Resources when, in fact, the discovery of a mechanical malfunction in the pumping stations managed by the Ogunquit Sewer District was discovered during a week that the clam flats were closed anyway. The flats are open on alternate weekends and are scheduled to be open for clam harvesting on Dec. 9 and 10.
Board of Selectmen Chairman John Miller said Tuesday he had not yet received word from DMR as to whether they have found water conditions acceptable for this activity.
