Ogunquit Planning Board schedules forum on zoning for Monday
By C. Ayn Douglass
OGUNQUIT - The Ogunquit Planning Board will hold a special forum on zoning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, prior to its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m.The purpose, according to Planning Board Chairman Steve Wilkos, is to hear residents' opinions as to why the voters opted to narrowly defeat Article 4 on the Nov. 7 warrant.
Article 4 sought to align the zoning ordinances with the comprehensive plan. Voters turned down the warrant article in a vote of 334 to 421.
"We want to hear what residents have to say as to why they voted against the article and take their comments into consideration to get a revised warrant article on the April (warrant)," Wilkos said. "It seemed they were against the (portion) that referred to hotel and motel expansion."
Wilkos said the Planning Board and Land Use Department worked for a year and a half on the 14 articles and, during the process, opened their meetings to public comment.
During that time, he said, meetings were attended by hotel/motel owners who had few concerns about the article as it was finally presented to the voters.
