Girls' ice hockey frosts Yarmouth,
8-4

YORK - The York High School girls' ice hockey team played their 2006-2007 home opener versus Yarmouth High School on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Rochester Ice Arena.

York beat Yarmouth 8-4, led by Megan Yorke and Alex Banfield, each with two goals.

First-year goalie Kacey Coffenbury and freshman goalie Ashly Neal shared the goaltending duties and both had key saves.

The game was knotted at 2-2 after the first period and 3-3 halfway through the second period before Lauren Coupal broke the tie.

Then Yorke, Ali DiElsi, Nell Henderson-Brown and Katherine Lindbom all tallied on the way to the team's first victory.

Kelsey Caramihalis, Kelly Landry and Natalie Kaknes each assisted on a goal.

York opened the season last Wednesday on the road against preseason favorite Biddeford. York lost 7-0 and had difficulty generating any offense against a talented Biddeford team.

York is 1-1 so far this season.
