LET THERE BE LIGHTS. The 14th Annual Festival of Lights Celebration brought the spirit of the holidays to life - and into light - throughout York Village on Saturday, Dec. 2. With favorite traditions from festivals past and brand new events for this year's celebration, those who braved the chill to take part in the daylong festivities had nothing but praise for the Old York Historical Society, York Parks and Recreation and the many individuals, groups and businesses that came together to make the event, and its parade, a success. More than 20 years ago, John Clancy helped make it legal for other surfers to use the entire beach beyond the summer months. If Jack Hoyt's health allowed him to attend the upcoming Shtick Happens Players Improv Night, he would be right in the front row, laughing out loud. While this year's Mother's Day flood may have occurred more than six months ago, its implications were fresh on the minds of those taking time to learn more about watershed zoning and protecting the town's streams and rivers. There's an old adage in the performing arts about taking the show on the road, but for York High School Choral Director Rob Westerberg and the more than 200 students in his program, that phrase has a meaning all its own. Ocean National Bank's 2006 holiday greeting card, featuring an illustration of the familiar Nubble Lighthouse by Lin Albertson-Thorpe, was unveiled at Sohier Park on Monday, Dec. 4. She has done it again. As Christians everywhere prepare to celebrate the birth of their religion and the renewal of their faith this season, members of the Cape Neddick Baptist Church are welcoming an enthusiastic new pastor and his young family to their midst. It is that time of year again for many, when thoughts of the holiday season bring with them the desire to help others.

Reports of a number of thefts from motor vehicles have been received by police since the announcement of the recent arrest of two 16-year-old juveniles on Friday, Nov. 24, in connection with similar incidents. The town's parking ban is in effect.

By Town Planner Steve Burns After the recent loss of two Maine citizens due to the misuse of a portable generator, The York Beach Fire Department felt compelled to remind local residents of the dangers winter can bring. The grass is growing and it has been mowed all summer. Now on sale at York High School for just $5 each are the 2007 Charlie Brown Wildcat Cards, providing discounts at area businesses for an entire year.
