Police caution residents to prevent thefts from vehicles
YORK - Reports of a number of thefts from motor vehicles have been received by police since the announcement of the recent arrest of two 16-year-old juveniles on Friday, Nov. 24, in connection with similar incidents. The boys were charged with receiving stolen property and one was charged with sale/use of drug paraphernalia.
The York Police Department has asked anyone missing items from their vehicles to contact police to see if these items were recovered in the arrest, as some have been. Some of the reports received last week stem from that alleged rash of thefts. Police continue to investigate.
As a precaution, police said items of value should not be left in vehicles even if they are locked. They also noted that while shopping, higher priced items should be purchased last and not left unattended in vehicles.
If things of value must be kept in vehicles, they are safer locked in trunks than left in open view. Police also reminded residents that vehicles should be locked at all times.
If you believe you are a victim of a recent theft from your vehicle, contact the York Police Department at 363-4444.
