Lady Wildcats win opener, 30-20

YORK - The York High School Lady Wildcats opened their basketball season with a 30-20 win at Yarmouth last Saturday night, Dec. 9.After a sluggish start, the Yarmouth Lady Clippers led 6 to 4 at the end of the first period. York countered with seven points in the second period while holding Yarmouth to just four.
The Lady Wildcats, led by senior Kristen Raymond with nine points, including one trey, put the game away in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Clippers 10-3 to take a 21-13 lead going into the final period.
Senior Co-Captains Morgan Taylor and Stephanie Plaisted added seven and four points, plus controlling the boards.
Sophomore Meredith Reid notched four points and sophomore Laney Yeomelakis added three for York in their varsity debut.
Rounding out the scoring were juniors Haley Westman with two and Brittany Bracy with one.
Next up on the schedule is a home game versus Greely on Thursday, Dec. 14, followed by another Saturday night road game at Fryeburg.
The Lady Wildcats return for a home game versus Falmouth on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
All varsity games start at 6:30 p.m.
