YORK VILLAGE - Weekly programs for children at the York Public Library include Miss Kate's Infant Lap, Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.; Preschool Story Time, Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., and Toddler Story Time, Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Monthly programs for children and parents include Making Music Monthly, the first Wednesday of each month from 10:15 to10:45 a.m.; Tactile Toddler Time, the second Tuesday of each month from 10:15 to10:45 a.m.; Babies, Boppies and Books, the second Thursday of each month from 10:15 to 11 a.m., and Art by the Pond, the third Tuesday of each month, from 10:15 to 11 a.m.SPOTLIGHTED EVENTS
Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 10:15 a.m. in the Children's Room, Making Music Monthly, a parent-child class lead by music teacher Michelle Franey, will focus on developing musical skills and social skills, with emphasis on moving to the beat and learning traditional children's songs. This program is suitable for children from ages 2 to 6.
Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 10:15 a.m., preschool educator Kimberly Whelan facilitates Tactile Toddler Time with sensory exploration appropriate for toddlers and their parents.
ARTIST TALK
Kittery Point artist Wendy Turner will speak about her work as a painter on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 5:30 p.m. With light, color and clarity, Turner has painted with watercolor and pastel for over 30 years. Her most recent work, large intricate close-ups of light on rocks and water, reflects her early love of the ocean and the coast of Maine. Turner's work is in many private and corporate collections, as well as in the permanent collection of the Ogunquit Museum of American Art. Her watercolor and oil paintings are on exhibit at the library until the end of January.
AUTHOR VISIT
Local author Neil Rolde will discuss his newest book, "Continental Liar from the State of Maine: James G. Blaine" on Friday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. This is the first full-fledged biography of James G. Blaine in 75 years. It's a fascinating story of politics, big business and behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing. A former Maine politician himself, Rolde is a prize-winning historian and the author of "Unsettled Past, Unsettled Future: The Story of Maine Indians;" "The Interrupted Forest: A History of Maine's Wildlands;" "Maine, Down East and Different" and many other books.
SECOND ANNUAL PRESCHOOL FAIR
On Saturday, Jan. 27, from 10a.m. to noon, the Second Annual Preschool Age Fair, organized by Sarah Morosoff, is the perfect way to beat the winter blues. Mark your calendars now for a day to explore enrichment programs designed with your preschooler in mind! The fair will feature exhibits, hands-on activities, wonderful raffle prizes and more. All fair exhibitors should register by this Friday, Dec. 15. Registration forms are available in the children's room of the library.
