OGUNQUIT - Ogunquit Performing Arts continues its 2006-2007 Classic Film Series with "Brief Encounter," the 1945 British film written by Noel Coward.

The showing is set for Wednesday Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Dunaway Center. There will be pre- and post-video discussions led by Norman Wilkinson of Ogunquit Performing Arts.

They were not special people, nor glamorous; not wealthy and no longer young. Both were contentedly married, each with two children with nothing dramatic happening in their lives until their brief encounter in the waiting room of the railway station.

"Brief Encounter" is a poignant tale of ordinary people caught up in the extraordinary power of love. Trevor Howard as Dr. Alec Harvey and Celia Johnson as Laura Jesson provide remarkable lead performances with the music of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto playing hauntingly in the background.

Much of the film was shot in Carnforth in Lancashire, England, with Noel Coward making the station announcements. "Brief Encounter" ranks among the top British films of all time.

There is plenty of free parking at the Dunaway Center and admission is free to the Jan. 10 event.
