Ogunquit News

ALL I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS WAS A LADDER TRUCK … That won't come from Santa Claus, but from the Ogunquit Board of Selectmen and voter approval in April. Fire Chief Ed Smith put forth the request to the selectmen earlier this month and last Tuesday night, Dec. 19, to order the new truck before emissions standards for that type of vehicle are changed in 2008. At that time, fire trucks as well as many fleet vehicles will be required to run on diesel fuel, which is more expensive to purchase and gets less miles per gallon. Assistant Chief Mark O'Brien and Smith presented a compelling argument to "splurge" now to avoid a larger expense in the future to replace the current aging ladder truck. Selectmen agreed to enter into either a lease/purchase for the vehicle or explore cost savings in an outright purchase that would be bonded.
