USM STEINERS TO TAKE THE STAGE. The York High School Choral Program will sponsor a performance by the University of Maine Steiners this Thursday evening, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the York High School Auditorium. The Steiners are USM's oldest a cappella group. Started in the late 1950s, the Steiners are an 11-man group that has won international acclaim and numerous awards in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, while also producing a number of CDs. They have performed across the globe, traveling as far as Budapest and Venice to promote a cappella music. They are recognized for their tight harmonies, diverse repertoire of original arrangements and energetic stage presence. The numbers are in, and last year's York High School junior class scored well above the state average - and tops among area school districts - in the Standardized Aptitude Test (SAT) assessment.
