Gerda D. Metcalf
WELLS - Gerda D. Metcalf, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, after a brief illness.She was born and raised on Nantucket Island, Mass., daughter of Nelson O. and Lalla (Kjellgren) Dunham.
Gerda graduated from the Mass Memorial Nursing Program, and served as a nurse in the army during World War II. She also worked at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital and at Dick's House at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. She enjoyed traveling to new places, painting, knitting, walking the beaches and was an avid reader.
Gerda was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, and her sister, Jane Nickerson.
She is survived by her two children; son, Eric N. Metcalf, his wife Janie and children Matias and Belen of Rockaway Beach, N.Y., and daughter, Victoria M. Smith, her husband Chuck, of Wells, and their son, Eric J., and grandson, Isaiah, of Kinston N.C.; two sisters Alva Waldie and Della Brooks both of Croswell, Mich., and many nieces and nephews.
Gerda will be sorely missed by her family, friends and the many others whose lives she touched.
Funeral services will be private. Gerda will be laid to rest with her husband in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne, Mass. In lieu of flowers, please support the Home Health Visiting Nurses of Saco, 15 Industrial Park Road, Saco, ME 04072
