Headlines from York and Ogunquit, Maine

YORK'S BABY NEW YEAR. Kendra Brooks arrived five days early, but she was also just in time. Born at 6:14 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, Kendra arrived healthy, beautiful and also in time to be York Hospital's first baby born in 2007. Although Kendra's scheduled due date was Jan. 7, her parents were hoping that she might be York Hospital's first baby of the New Year, said mom Caitlin Brooks. And when expectant parents Caitlin and Josh Brooks of Kittery arrived at York Hospital's birthing unit they knew they had a shot. "No one else was here," said Josh. The possibility of their daughter being the hospital's first baby of the year became a reality when Kendra arrived, weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces. Later that morning, newborn Kendra slept soundly after drinking an ounce of formula at only 45 minutes old. Caitlin and Josh were all smiles holding their perfect baby girl. Kendra joins big brother Dylan, who is 21 months old. Looking down at their daughter's face, both parents agreed that she looked a lot like her big brother, especially her facial expressions. The proud parents were happy to add a girl to the family, said Josh, adding, "We were surprised it worked out that way, but that was the plan."
