York wrestlers compete in Kennebunk duals

YORK - Last Saturday, Jan. 13, the Wildcats wrestling team competed at Kennebunk in an eight-team, double-elimination tournament format with eight of Maine's top wrestling programs, including Biddeford, Westbrook and host Kennebunk from Class A; Wells, Mountain Valley and York from Class B, and Lisbon and Dexter from Class C.The York Wildcats were outscored by Lisbon 39 to 27 but outscored their other three opponents.
They defeated Dexter, 48 to 24, Biddeford, 42 to 36 and Westbrook, 54 to 24.
Individual competitors for York included Reaha Goyetche at 103 with two wins by forfeit, one win on a pin in 5:42 and one loss by pin in 3:21. Billy Gauthier wrestled at 112 and won on a pin in 1:49 and also won by forfeit but he lost on a decision (10-7) and also lost to a pin in 3:38. Mason Farrer at 119 won one match by forfeit but lost his other three to pins. Jim Cassotis at 125 won two matches by forfeit but lost two on pins. Alex Hymanson at 130 won two matches by forfeit but lost one on a decision (5-3) and lost another on a pin. Tom Ciampa won three matches including one on a pin in 1:25, one by decision (6-4), one by forfeit and lost one by decision 9-2. Dan Towers at 140 also won three matches: two on pins and one by forfeit, but lost one on a close decision (3-1).
Carlos Sanchez @ 145 won a match by pin in 3:54 but lost two by decision (2-1 and 8-6) and also lost on a pin in 2:13. Cory Caramihalis at 152 won two matches on quick pins in 47 seconds and in 10 seconds, but lost on a pin in 1:35 and also by decision (14-7).
Nate Hirst, wrestling up in the 160 class, won one match by decision (9-4) but lost his other three on pins. Ray Gauthier at 171 won all four of his matches, two by pins, one by decision (5-0) and one by forfeit.
Nick Mercurio at 189 won two matches on quick pins (1:07 and 1:27). He won another by decision (10-3) but lost his fourth match (8-3). Anthony Gonzalez at 215 wrestled one match but lost by decision (8-4). Ryan Vokey competed in three matches at 215 and won on a pin in 53 seconds, but lost his other two by decisions.
Next on the schedule for the York wrestlers are a match in Monmouth on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. and then a match at Mount Valley on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m.
