A fair for the ages - preschool, that is

Six years ago when I decided to come to work at this library, I was consciously looking for a library that was an integral part of its surrounding community.

The York Public Library really shines when it is a center for community events of all kinds. Library staff and community members working together create special moments in the life of the library. Such a moment will take place Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Second Annual Preschool-Age Fair.

Much of the library's programming for children is organized and supported by the Children's Programming Community, a dedicated group of volunteers who, working with library staff, plan children's programs of all kinds at the library and who donate their time and talents to make those programs successful. This fair evolved when committee members realized that there was no easy way to find out what programs were available for preschool-aged children and their families. For its first two years, volunteer Sarah Morosoff has organized the fair.

If you're out and about on Saturday, even if you don't have preschoolers of your own, it's worthwhile to take a walk through the library. You will find the energy and creativity of all the people who work with young children infectious!

My impression is that York continues to be a town that cares enough to become a community. The library is an integral part of the town and community. With your continued support, we can sustain and extend programs like this one.

The Preschool Fair is a great way to begin another year of children's programming.
