YORK KARATE STUDENTS ADVANCE. On Saturday, Jan. 27, over 35 students enrolled in the York Parks and Recreation Department's Shaolin Kenpo karate program participated in rank testing/advancement. Rank testing consists of each participant demonstrating his or her proficiency at the level they are working to achieve. Once the student has reached that proficiency, he or she is invited to test. In the group pictured here, students earned several levels of rank: purple, blue, blue with a green stripe and green belts. Students receive their rank certificates and belts upon completion of testing. Some of the students had been working toward their new rank for over a year, learning all of the necessary requirements from Sensei Dennis Fall and Instructor Bruce Hardenbrook of the Seacoast Martial Arts Center in Lee, N.H. Saturday's testing was administered by Shihan Kevin Crossan of the Seacoast Martial Arts Center.
