Wildcats lose at buzzer to Lakers,
56-54

YORK - The second-seeded York Wildcats (9-5) journeyed to Naples after a week off to face Lake Region (6-8) last Friday, Jan. 26.

The Wildcats were beaten at the buzzer when Phil Leighton scored on a three pointer to give the Lakers an upset win by the final score of 56--54.

Lake Region took a 21-14 lead in the first period while York was still cold from the long bus ride.

Phil Alibrandi (game high 26) tried to rally the Wildcats, but it was not enough as the Lakers countered with the scoring of Chris Shane (21 points plus a critical steal in the final seconds) and Phil Ellis (18 points including four treys).

Tony Romano added 13 points plus his usual share of rebounds for the Wildcats.

Next on the regular season schedule are road games at Freeport on Friday, Feb. 2, at Cape Elizabeth on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and then the final regular season game at home against Wells on Thursday, Feb. 8.
