York youth hockey in first place
YORK - The town's youth hockey teams are at the top of their divisions.York Middle School Hawkins Division recently moved into a tie for first place with Cape Elizabeth with a 7-2 win over Westbrook.
Conor O'Brien led the offense with a hat trick with Anthony Figlioli, Christian Going and Craig Decato adding a goal and an assist each.
Tyler Lewis also scored along with Zach Franklin, Shane Hughes and Thomas Cifrino adding assists.
Kyle Robinson, Arran Maran and Mike Valeri played solid defense in front of Goalie Alex Ahrikenchik.
The York team has now scored 56 goals while allowing only 26 on the season.
The York Seacoast Bantams played in a Christmas Tournament Championship against local rivals Oyster River, Dover and N.H. East programs where they outscored opponents 16-2 in 3 games.
The team has continued it momentum and is currently in first place in their Seacoast division with a 7-2 record. A recent 3-1 win over Rochester, N.H., was led on offense with goals by Tanner Pidgeon, Tanner Chase and Tyler Lewis. Corey Decato, Chris Ockerbloom and Pidgeon had one assist each.
York Valley League Team also is on top of their division, with a 6-3 record after a recent win, which was led offensively by Aaron Gootee's two goals and one assist.
Ockerbloom added two goals and Tyler Lewis one goal and one assist. Derek Johnson and Cifrino added one assist each.
Ahrikenchik was solid in net with good defense from Sam Richardson, Hughes, Craig Decato and Cifrino.
