YORK HARBOR - A Saturday afternoon fire caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to one portion of the Stage Neck Inn, but the lodging and dining areas were spared from the blaze.York Fire Chief Chris Balentine said the fire that went to two alarms on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the oceanfront inn was the result of electrical wiring and the ensuing damage was contained to a service area and two offices.
Although guests had to be evacuated while firefighters doused the blaze, Balentine said no one was injured and the rooms, restaurants and common areas of the inn escaped unscathed.
"The cause of the fire at the Stage Neck is electric wires that went up the service utility shaft," Balentine said, explaining they connected to a fan used to vent commercial dryers in the building. "There was some heavy damage to two offices. The guest portion of is fine - the lobby, the kitchen and dining areas are all fine," Balentine said.
Balentine said he would estimate, preliminarily, the extent of the damage was in the range of $50,000 to $75,000.
