This Friday night at York High School you can take the Jeopardy Challenge
By Jennifer L. Saunders
YORK - There's only one place to be on Friday night to test your skill at tough trivia while watching some local celebrities in a battle of the wits: the York High School Academic Boosters' Jeopardy Challenge. This year's event is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. in the York High School Auditorium.
The event includes teams from about a dozen participating local businesses and sponsored organizations - including teams of York High School students. Those participating or sponsoring teams include the York Rotary Club, York Family Practice, Landscape Express, Kennebunk Savings Bank, DeStefano & Associates, The Anchorage Inn, Albany Techniweave and York Kiwanis - as of Monday afternoon. Teams from the York Teachers Association and Town Hall may also be sponsored to participate in the event.
At the actual game on Friday, each team will field three contestants and one of the highlights of the evening will be audience interaction at the event.
"The size of the audience will have a large bearing on the success of the evening," the Academic Boosters noted in their announcement of Friday's Jeopardy Challenge. "We encourage sponsors to invite many family and friends to attend and be part of the fun."
There will be prizes for the top three teams and for the champions, and light refreshments will be available at intermission.
Each participating team has contributed - or collected through sponsors - $300 to benefit the efforts of the York High School Academic Boosters.
The Academic Boosters was founded back in 1995 and is committed to supporting the York High School academic program and honoring excellence in achievement through such initiatives as the Student of the Month and Phoenix awards, the annual Honors Banquet and scholarships.
And such efforts can be quite expensive. The Honors Banquet, for example, which is held each spring to honor students who have distinguished themselves through academic achievement, includes an elegant meal, awards presentation and awards - and the cost runs over $3,000 per year to be raised by the York High School Athletic Boosters.
To support this year's efforts, come out Friday evening to the Jeopardy Challenge at 7 p.m. at York High School. For more on what's happening at York High School, visit www.yorkschools.org.
