LOVE SONGS. On Sunday, Feb. 11, students in Lynne White McMahon's "York Strings" program performed at Harbor Home and Sentry Hill and shared Valentine's Day cards they made especially for the residents. The children, who are all students at Village and Coastal Ridge Elementary Schools, are in either second or third grade and have been playing violin for one or two years.

On a frigid day recently, I tackled somewhat icy sidewalks on State Street in Portsmouth and wandered into the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery, home to the New Hampshire Art Association (NHAA). Pictured on the soft-cover catalogue accompanying the exhibition, "The World of John Brewster, Jr.," currently at the Portland Museum of Art, is a full-length portrait of an unidentified little girl. "The world is a masquerade. Face, dress, and voice, are all false. All
wish to appear what they are not. All deceive and do not know themselves."
Ogunquit Performing Arts continues the 2006-2007 Classic Film Series season with Harold Lloyd's 1928 silent film "Speedy" at the Dunaway Center on Wednesday evening, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. Local resident Michael Kimball may be best known for his international best-selling thrillers, but he's now quickly gaining recognition for his talent as a playwright, most recently with a nomination for the 2007 Edgar Award.
