RED IS FOR… VALENTINE'S DAY AND CHINESE NEW YEAR. While many of us may be thinking about colorful candy hearts and roses for Valentine's Day, the students in Glenna Kimball's first-grade class at Village Elementary School got all decked out last week to celebrate the Chinese New Year, which begins on Feb. 18. Pictured here, the children pose in their red attire and masks for a parade around the school. For those who are in the mood for celebrating Valentine's Day with a story of romance that has lasted for decades, click here to read about one York couple whose love has stood the test of time.

Almost anyone who knows Selectman Torbert Macdonald, Jr., is aware that for years he has been battling the illness commonly known as Lyme disease. After three revisions and several months of collaboration among the town, surfers and other members of the community, the surf ordinance is ready to be submitted to the Board of Selectmen for possible inclusion on the May ballot. Town Manager Phil Clark is reportedly doing well as he continues to recover from heart surgery. The late Letitia Moore has left her entire estate, worth almost $500,000, to the York Art Association, a gift that has arrived just as the association has been rethinking its offerings to the community. For 20 years, Jane Stephenson's name has been synonymous with the best that the York School Department has to offer.
