Weeks have passed since Gov. John Baldacci first unveiled his Local Schools, Regional Support plan to Maine communities and school districts, but the passage of time is not making the plan any more palatable to local leaders. Although some major differences between the Budget Review Committee and the Board of Selectmen's recommendations could not be resolved, selectmen have finalized the budget for the April ballot. The Planning Board will try a different approach when it presents 14 warrant articles proposed for the ballot in April at a public forum on Monday, Feb. 26. Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education will join with the Friends of the Wells Public Library to present a special evening of entertainment in the week ahead. State Conservationist Joyce Swartzendruber of the United States Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has announced that $100,000 is available in new grants to Maine farmers; landowners; state, tribal and local government entities, and non-governmental organizations.
