Girls' ice hockey skates to the preliminaries

YORK - The girls' ice hockey team wrapped up its regular season with three games last week including back-to-back games with number two-ranked Lewiston Blue Devils.

In the first game on Saturday, Feb. 24, York skated well but failed to find the back of the net and lost 4-0.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, Lewiston hosted York at the Lewiston Colisee. York took an early lead when Lauren Coupal forced a turnover and Katherine Lindbom scored the goal.

York held the lead until the 10-minute mark of the third period when Lewiston knotted the game at 1-1 and that's how the game ended.

On Thursday, York ended the season against number four-ranked Falmouth. Neither team scored in the first two periods, but Falmouth tallied twice in the third period for the 2-0 win in an exciting back-and-forth game.

The York team was scheduled to play number eight Portland High School in a preliminary round tournament game on Tuesday; however, the results were not available by the reporting deadline.

The York junior varsity girls also had a busy week with five games.

In its last game, York shut out Gorham 8-0 led by Nell Henderson-Brown with the hat trick. Katherine Hird, Ashly Neal, Kellee Cribby, Marena Bach and Linnie Blais each added a goal. Kasey Coffenbury recorded the shutout.

York lost to Scarborough 3-2, with Neal and Kelly Landry each scoring for York.

The team tied Winthrop 1-1 on a goal by Emily Wall but lost to Brewster Academy, 5-1, with the lone York goal scored by Cribby. They also lost to Berwick Academy, 2-0.

York has two more games before their tournament begins in mid-March.
