Currents in Education

THE WONDER OF BOOKS. Grace Cromwell, left, and Carly Osgood curl up with a great book on Wednesday, Feb. 28, as part of Coastal Ridge Elementary School's celebration of Read Across America Week. Each day offered a different theme based on a Dr. Seuss book - from pajama day, inspired by "I'm NOT Going to Get Up Today" to hat day, in honor of "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins." On Hat Day, students from Alicia Marquis' fourth-grade class met up with their "reading buddies" in Susan Albertini's third-grade class to make hats reminiscent of the famous Cat in the Hat and read together. The week also featured special guest readers and even lunch items in honor of Dr. Seuss.

A report on the York High School Jeopardy Challenge in the Feb. 21 edition of The Independent credited Howard Koeppel with helping organizers by providing batteries for the event. Koeppel has since informed The Independent he was not the individual who assisted the organizers and should not be the one thanked.
